Tasks
Type
We offer several types of service. Specific details on each can be found by selecting
"Skills and services" from the menu on the
left.
Associated files
File formats/types:
To send you files we need to know one of the following:
-
Which program you will use to open the files, including the version.
An example is MS Word 2000.
-
Which file formats you would like us to save the files as. Examples are
jpg and gif.
In some cases only the exact program information will do as there can be different
versions of the same file extension (for example, doc files for
MS Word 95 are different to doc files for MS Word 2000).
Scanning:
- Any documents that you have on paper need to be scanned on to your computer.
- The following guidelines will allow you to scan more quickly and reduce file sizes:
-
Choose to scan and save files at the lowest possible image quality
(unless scanning graphics).
-
Choose to scan and save files with as few colours as possible
(unless scanning graphics).
- Save the scanned file as a jpg (jpeg format), if possible.
Transfer method:
There are three main methods we use to transfer files:
- Email
- FTP
- Automatic transfer by a program
Email:
- This is the most common method.
- It is done by attaching the files to an email.
- All email programs/websites support file attachments.
FTP:
- Files are placed in an area on the internet or your system.
- If the area is on your system:
- Your system must be permanently connected to the internet.
- We need a login name and password to access it.
- Files can be put into the area or retreived from it at any time.
Automatic transfer by a program:
- You provide us with a custom program to use for the chosen task.
- We use it to perform the task and it automatically sends the results to your system.
Time limit
- This is the maximum amount of time that you want us to spend on a task.
- You must give us a time limit for every task that you set us.
- It can be expressed in hours or minutes.
- No amount is too small.
-
The maximum time limit that you can set is the number of hours that we have available
for your chosen deadline.
Deadline
-
The deadline is the length of time that we have to complete
(or partly complete) and return the task.
-
It is calulated from the time that you send us the task, unless you have not
included some things that we need to complete the task. If this is the case
then the deadline will be calulated from when we receive these.
-
You must choose a deadline for each task that you set us, making sure that
we have enough hours available for it.
- The shorter the deadline, the higher the charge.
-
Select "Our current workload"
from the menu on the left to see the charge for each deadline (it also shows how many
hours we have available for each deadline, at the present time).
- Tasks could be returned at any time before the deadline.
-
If for some reason we are not able to return a task by it's deadline,
we will not charge you for it.
Cancellation
-
Tasks that have not been returned to you can be cancelled.
It is up to our discretion as to whether or not we charge you for any work done
towards cancelled tasks. We understand that changes in circumstances do
occur and we try to accomodate for these.
- Tasks that have been returned to you cannot be cancelled.
Cost
- You are charged for the number of minutes we have spent working on the task.
-
If it is completed in less time than the "time limit", you are only
charged for the actual amount of time spent on it.
-
- Charges depend on which deadline is chosen.
-
To see the charges for different deadlines, select
"Charges and payment"
from the menu on the left.
Reference Number
- Each task is given a unique reference number.
- This prevents any confusion in future correspondance.
